Dept. of Anatomy, Histology and Plastination, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark
From July 20th to 23rd, 2026, the 22nd International Conference on Plastination took place in Odense, in the new facilities of the Faculty of Health Science at the University of Southern Denmark. This was the first time the international conference on plastination had been held in a Scandinavian country. More than 40 delegates (Figure 1) from 11 different countries participated in the conference, submitting 24 abstracts for both platform and poster presentations. Plenary sessions were scheduled from July 21st to 23rd, while posters were presented on July 23rd and were available for viewing throughout the conference.
In addition to the excellent scientific program, the conference offered a social program, including the Conference dinner at Den Gamle Kro (The Old Inn), a boat trip on Odense Å (the Odense River) with a subsequent walking tour of the town, and a visit to the house and museum of Hans Christian Andersen. On the last day, the organizers wished to give the delegates a taste of Denmark, with traditional cake (Brunsviger) and bitters (Gammel Dansk) in the morning, open sandwiches for lunch, and a farewell barbecue with roasted whole pig and draught beer in the evening (Figures 21-22). The conference was characterized by an excellent atmosphere that laid the groundwork for scientific and social communication.
